Helen Legare Floyd graduated Clemson University in 1981 with a B.S. degree in Agronomy and a minor in Horticulture. She later joined the family business in 1986, after working for the USDA for a few years.
She has taught Turf Management numerous times at Trident Technical College, as well as being a frequent speaker for various events such as the Charleston Garden Show, Master Gardener groups, and other various garden clubs. Helen has been a guest panelist on ETV’s Makin It Grow. Helen works with various landscapers as a consultant on turf problems.
Helen oversees the Community Supported vegetable program for the farm. She runs the hayrides to feed the cows during October’s pumpkin time. She writes the farm’s monthly newsletter and answers all of the farm’s e-mail. Helen uses her many years of experience to oversee the renourishment plant nursery and fruit trees production.
Helen is chairman of the S.C. Farm Bureau Horticulture commodity committee. She serves as immediate past-President of the Clemson University College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences Alumni Association. She has served on the Clemson Extension Horticulture Advisory Committee. She is a member of the Horticulture Advisory Committee for Trident Technical College. Helen served on the Board of the South Carolina Nursery and Landscape Association and was President for 2006. She is a member of the Heritage Corridor’s Farmers Association board.
