Camp for children ages 9-11 years old* will be held
June 18-22; July 23-27
Camp hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily.
The cost for all five days of summer camp costs $160.00. An $80.00 deposit is due with your application. This will reserve your child’s space in camp and is non-refundable. The balance is due on the first day of camp.
We will do 2 crafts and 2 snacks per day. We try, as much as possible, to follow the theme of the day with both crafts and snacks. For example: on animal day we eat ice cream and on veggie day, popcorn. We also allow lots of time for free play and on hot days, water games.
Summer Camp Agenda:
Day 1 – Animal Day
See our pigs, goats, sheep, cows, chickens, rabbit and turkeys. Learn how to groom, feed, water and care for each animal. Learn more about each animal.
Day 2 – Vegetable Day
Spend the day learning how to plant, grow and harvest vegetables. Learn about seeds, how to weed, fertilize and water the vegetables. Spend time in our vegetable fields and pick a bag of veggies to take home.
Day 3 – Fiber Day
Learn about wool, cotton and other natural fibers. Spin wool into yarn, pick cotton and learn about natural dyes. Tie-dye a t-shirt to take home.
Day 4 – Bug Day
Learn all about bees, butterflies and other bugs we see on a farm. Learn why we could not live without bugs. Learn how honey is made and observe Legare Farms bee hives (from a distance).
Day 5 – Wrap Up Day
Learn a brief lesson on the history of agriculture in South Carolina and what other types of farming is done in our state. Then comes the really fun stuff: pony rides and a hayride out to feed the cows.
* Please respect our age limits. Younger children do not have the social skills or manual dexterity for the activities that the older children are doing and the older children are bored with the activities for younger children.
Parents – Things to Remember!
- Lunch – Morning and afternoon snack is provided. Please let us know on your application if you keep Kosher or your child has allergies.
- Water Bottle
- Sun Screen
- Bathing suit and towel – to play in the sprinklers.
- Appropriate clothing – This is a working farm! We get dirty. So dress your child in old clothes. Boots or tennis shoes are required. Absolutely no sandals or flip-flops.
- Bring no toys, please. Toys cause quarrels and the children get upset if they are lost or damaged.
Note: Due to the nature of farming and the fact that we are dealing with living animals, and crops that can fail, some of these activities may not be available. However, if one activity has to be cancelled we will do our best to replace it with an equal or better activity. Also, the days on which we do certain activities is subject to change without notice.
